The purpose of the settlement plates would be <br />to determine the rate of consolidation in these areas and make a <br />judgment as to when it would be feasible to remove the surcharge. <br />FIELD EXPLORATION PROCEDURES <br />Test Borings <br />Six soil test borings were put down between the dates of November 1 and <br />November 4, 1983. Boring;1-83 through 4-83 were put down at locations <br />discussed with you. These borings were standard penetration test <br />borings. Borings5-83 and 6-83 were auger borings which were put down <br />only to determine the depth of swamp deposits. The location of all of <br />the recent borings along with two previous borings located on this <br />portion of the site are indicated on the attached sketch.
