Utility crossings involving pipelines must comply with Federal <br />Department of Transportation regulations for installation of pipelines. <br />5. All utility lines transporting oil, gas, or other pollutive <br />substances must be equipped with shutoff valves at the water crossing to <br />prevent unnecessary pollution of waters in the event of pipeline breakages. <br />6. The utility line crossing must be regulated and approved under <br />appropriate state laws and rules. Sand Blankets - A layer of clean sand or pea gravel spread over the bed <br />of a body of water, usually in shoreline areas. The length of the sand blanket must not exceed 60 feet along the <br />shoreline, or one-half the lakeshore property frontage, whichever is less. <br />2. The sand blanket must not extend more than 30 feet waterward, or <br />the distance needed to achieve a 4-foot water depth, whichever is less. <br />3. Prior to the placement of the sand blanket, organic material may be <br />dredged from the bed of the waterbody, provided the dredged material is <br />placed at an upland location. <br />8.
