SECTION 02665 <br />WATER SYSTEM <br />3.01 PREPARE.ION <br />A. Establishing Line and Grade <br />1. The primary line and grade will be established by the Surveyor. For <br />trench installation, line and grade stakes will be set parallel to <br />the proposed pipeline at an appropriate offset therefrom as will <br />best serve the contractor's operations wherever practical. <br />2. The Contractor shall arrange his operations to avoid unnecessary <br />interference with the establishment of the primary line and grade <br />stakes; and shall render whatever assistance may be required by the <br />Surveyor in accomplishing the staking. <br />3. The Contractor shall be responsible for preservation of the primary <br />stakes and shall bear the full cost of any restaking necessitated by <br />his negligence. <br />4. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for the correct transfer <br />of the primar line and grade to all working points and for <br />construction of the work to the prescribed lines and grades as <br />established by the Surveyor. <br />B. Protection of Underground and Surface Structures. <br />1. Temporary support, adequate protection and maintenance of all <br />underground and surface utility strucures, drains, sewers and other <br />obstructions encountered in the progress of the work shall be <br />furnished by the Contractor at his own expense. When necessary to <br />determine the location of existing pipes, valves or other <br />underground structures, the Contractor, after an examination of <br />available ^ecords, shall made all explorations and excavation for <br />such purposes. <br />2. Whenever existing uti, ty structures, main sewer, drains, or other <br />conduits, ducts, pipes or other structures present obstructions to <br />the grade or alignment of the pipe, such structures shall be <br />permanently supported, removed, relocated or reconstructed by the <br />contractor through cooperation with the owner of the structures <br />involved. In those instances where relocation or reconstruction is <br />impractical, a change in line and/or grade <br />401 ordered by t11,2 <br />Engineer and the change shall be rude in the manner directed. No <br />deviation shall be made from the required line or grade except by <br />written consent of the Engineer. <br />3,,, The Contractor shall promptly repair at his expense any break or <br />damage to other utility mains, or to house service connections for <br />water, sewer, and gas caused by his work. <br />4.
