PLANNING REPORT
DATE:
6 April 1908
NUMBER:
CASE U BER•
1828
APPLICANT:
Midland Scientific of MN, Inc.
LOCATION•
Northwest Corner of County
Road C and Patton Road (see
sketch)
ACTION REQUESTED:
Special Use Permit for
Chemical Storage and
Distribution
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Midland Scientific of Minnesota
is the company that currently occupies
space at 1995 West County Road B-2 where the land ;s zoned Light
Industrial (I-1). You will recall
the City recently proposed to change
the ordinance to allow chemical
storage and distribution as a Special
Use Permit in the I-2 District,
thus, enabling a proposed relocation of
this company.
2. The proposal is to move the company to the new location which will
occupy Bay Number 20 in the accompanying
building plan, consisting of
:
approximately 4,037 square feet.
This company has about six employees
and is in the business of storing, bulk breaking, and shipping a variety
of chemicals. We understand
that they do not mix chemicals. In
effect, they are bulk breakers,
except in shipment in some cases of
large quantities, repackaging it into smaller quantities, and shipping it to
the customer.
3. Attached is a letter from the
applicants outlining the nature of the
operation and the proposal.
4. The City's Building Inspector and Fire Marshall have been working
closely with the owners and managers of the building (Roseville
Properties) who propose to accommodate the chemical company's
operations. The building is relatively new and is fully supplied with
sprinklers.
5. The Building Inspector and the Fire
Marshall
have been working with
the applicants and the lessors
of the
building
regardiny the development
standards as required by the
building
code and life safety code. It is
our understanding that all of
these provisions
can and will be complied
with in the new location.
6. To the extent we are awars,
it would
appear
appropriate to approve the
Special Use Permit with the
condition that
all appropriate applicable
regulations in the life safety
code and
building
codes are complied with.
