n4
b'.
December 14, 1987
t
TO: Jim Andre
L
FROM: Bob Bierscheid
RE: Reconsideration of Ladyslipper Park Land Acquisition
As requested by the City of Roseville Planning Commission, the Park and
Recreation Board reviewed the earlier recommendation not to acquire seven
acres of land that had been designated for future park land adjacent to
Lady slipper Park. At their December 7, 1987 meeting, the Park and Recreation
,
Board did reconsider the proposal for the City to purchase this property. The
Board unanimously recommended to reaffirm the original position not to acquire
this property for these reasons:
ti
1. Access to this land for recreational use would be difficult.
2. The neighbors wanted no active recreational use in this area.
3. It would be difficult to maintain and supervise trails in this area.
4. Concerns over losing the canoe channel could be alleviated through
other means and not require access from the East side.
5. Over. 70% of this parcel will remain in its natural state because of
the Minnesota Wetlands Protection Act, thus saving the City thousands
of dollars for acquisition for land that must remain in its present
state.
After review of comments -from staff and the Park and Recreation Board, it is my
° recommendation, as Director of Parks and Recreation, that the City Council not
purchase this parcel of land.
d.
s
4
i2
