Roseville Area Schools
Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Maplewood, Roseville, Shoreview
District 623
April 20, 1987
Andre
'l+Rosevillie City Manager
?}itsr'„
a:r ,Roseville City Hall
')` ` 2660 Civic Center Drive
K` Roeeville, MN 55113
i
',5 Dear Mr. Andre:
L. ndependent School District #623 is well into the process
both grade reorganization and relocation Eor the 1987/88 school planning for
Eor
-Included in these plans is the combining of the current East and West
Campuses into the Roseville Area High School at the former Alexander
Ramsey site.
This will bring together grades 10 through lit and about 1,725 regular
students in a building that was meant to accomodate between 1,600 and
1,650. In addition, we will have two or three classrooms of special
education students from Northeast Metropolitian School District 916
located there to provide housing in an integrated facility as required
by law.
To provide sufficient and satisfactory space for these students the school
district has determined a need for seven (7) portable classrooms for the
school years of 1987/88 and 1988/89. These would consist of three doubles
and one single located on the east and west side of the south wings of the
existing building as per the attached diagram. These classrooms are built
to meet the state codes and are planned to be located at a sufficient
distance Erom existing structures to satisfy the Eire codes. They will be
served only with electricity; no water or sewer.
The two year time period is necessary before class sizes drop to a point
where all students can be accomodated in the existing building. For
1987/88, there will be about 1,250 students in grades seven through nine
at the Roseville Area Middle School and as they move up in grade level the
fit will be satisfactory at the high school.
The School District respectfully requests the City Council's approval to
proceed with locating seven portable classrooms at the high school site
for the next two years. This proposal has been discussed with Craig
Waldron and Howard Dahlgren and, I believe, meets with their approval.
Sincerely,
Paul A.
