REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: <br />• <br />DATE: 5/11/87 <br />ITEM NO .: E - 6 <br />Agenda Section: <br />Reports and Recommendations <br />Item Description: Charles Cabinet request for a variance to a non- <br />conforming use at 3090 N. Cleveland Avenue. <br />The Schreier's operate a shop, which has been in place since 1945, that <br />is a nonconforming use. A nonconforming garage was damaged by a tree. <br />Technically, the Schreier's can repair the garage; however, they have <br />the opportunity to purchase a garage from Mr. Thompson which is larger <br />than the existing damaged garage (22' x 16.5' versus 24' x 261). <br />Again, the Schreier's can repair the nonconforming garage but not <br />replace it unless a variance is granted. However, it is more practical <br />to simply repair the garage through a "replacement." <br />Messrs. Dahlgren and Jensen have reviewed this proposal and have <br />determined that it makes more sense to repair the garage through <br />replacing it with Thompson's garage. <br />This would be accomplished through a variance to a nonconforming use. <br />All neighbors supported the proposal. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion approving/denying Charles Cabinet's request for a variance to a <br />nonconforming use at 3090 N. Cleveland Avenue. <br />
