In the Gluek Lane circle we need to maintain an area at
the level of the catch basins or gently sloping toward them
that will allow for water to back: up on the local area if
the storm sewer is running at full capacity. Some water can
delay entering the full storm sewer- pipes, saturate the
ground at that level and slowly rise (if the rainfall is
massive or prolonged) before flooding local basements that
have been historically dry. 'The goal is to have it drain out
as the capacity of the pipe allows and not to remain as a
mosquito breeding pond.
In some developments ponding may be required and is used
when the area available for back up is insufficient, but this
has not been the plan for this area in the past.
There is a very large relatively flat area available here
which can be appropriately graded for this purpose. If
ponding is required then a plan to serve the entire area
should be developed with an attractive pond that allows for
adequate mosquito control.
