HAR MAR MALL.
■
ENTERPRISE
May 25, 1989
Roseville
Roseville
Attn : Pat
2660 Civic
Roseville,
Dear Pat:
City Planning
City Hall
Johnson
Center Drive
MN 55113
Commission
I am replying to a letter dated May 18 from Donna
Hofineister that was sent to you concerning two issues
about Har-Mar Mall.
Mrs. Hofineister states that it has been one and one-
half years since the completion of the mall addition. In
fact, it has only been 7 months.
Concerning the buffer zone, back in September 1987
almost 2 years ago, the mall embarked on a buffer zone re-
planting project on the east side, with the removal of the
overgrown trees and bushes. Approximately 100, 6 foot tall
arborvitae trees were planted. The following spring, there
were many that did not make it through the winter, so our
landscape company replaced them. Again, many died last sum-
mer due to the severe drought. We have already talked to
the landscaper about a third replacement of those trees this
year.
Last spring, the landscaper did a complete walk-through
of the rest of the buffer zone, and tagged each tree and bush
that should be replaced. Before we could meet with the neigh-
bors, the drought came upon us and it was decided to hold off
on this major replanting effort. This spring, we nave been
carefully watching the amount of moisture in the soil, and
now the landscaper feels that we can proceed with the plans
for the removal and replanting project that we wanted to do
last year. I have kept Gordy Beseth of the City of Roseville
fully informed on our schedule, so that tie would know our
plans in case anyone from the neighborhood would call. We
just finished redoing the three foot strip inside the fence
line in which the landscape company raked out the old dead
brush, stones, etc., added dirt to bring it up to curb level,
2100 NORTH SNELLING AVENUE, SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA 55113 (612) 631-0340
