As much of the existing vegetation as <br />possible <br />will <br />create an effective screen between the differing uses.In areas vwere odead <br />p or diseased trees have been removed, new ones are proposed to strengthen <br />this existing woods. <br />In some areas, the existing woods offer an adequate buffer, while at other <br />locations additional plantings are necessary. In particular, the area to <br />the east of the proposed residence hal I Is being planted heavily with <br />evergreen trees to give a year around buffer In this location. The species <br />chosen w it I grow to a mature height equal to or greater than the height of <br />the proposed residence hall. <br />Along the east edge of the tennis courts, evergreen plant materials are <br />being introduced, not so much for their winter buffering effect, but for <br />the better sound absorption characteristics which evergreen species posses. <br />In addition, these plants are planted on the crnpus side of the woods because plants planted closer to the source of noise are more effective in <br />abating that 'noise than those planted further away from the source. <br />Furthermore, the 30. foot NSP easement along the east property I ine I Imits <br />pl anti ng that might have been proposed along 'the property I Ine. <br />Some pi anti ngs are a so be I ng proposed opposi to Berntsen Hal I to f 1 I I a <br />void In the planting screen at that location. <br />The path proposed along the east property i Ine has been relocated to the <br />west of the proposed tennis courts to give greater distance between <br />students and adjacent residences, thus reducing potential noise <br />disturbances. <br />&Lass Li.9b" <br />In conjunction with the construction of the proposed new main entrance to <br />be located about 500 feet west of Snel I ing Avenue along Lydia Avenue, the <br />existing access, located immediately west of Snel I ing Avenue on Lydia <br />Avenue, w i I I be cl osed to veh icuI ar traf f ic. However, the archway wi I l be <br />retained at that location and much of the existing pavement will be <br />converted to a pedestrian and bicycle trail. <br />
