RUDY PBRPICH
GOVERNOR
ST TIE' OIL NIINNESUrP
OFFICE ()P THY GOVISI NOW
:ST. PA UL 115153
june 30, 1983
Mr. Daniel Shuster
Chairman
Resource Recovery Task Force
Metropolitan Council
4222 Zenith Avenue S.
Minneapolis, MN 55410
Dear. Dan,
I would like to extend my thanks to you for your efforts in
developing a centralized metals recovery facility for Minnesota,
through you work as chairman of the Resource Recovery Task Force
of the Metropolitan Council.
I have every hope that your efforts will succeed in establishing .
a metals recovery facility, which will recycle toxic metals which
are presently disposed into our river systems, or. -into landfills.
Metals recovery could mean the elimination of nearly 17Z of our
state's hazardous wastes. It would also allow many small businesses
to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements, which 14ight
otherwise be forced to close their doors -- a loss as great as 1500 to
2000 jobs in Minnesota. The electro-plating and circuit board industries
would be among those hardest hit, and are essential, to our state's econ-
ony, serving as vital support industries for Minnesota's expanding high-
tech sector.
I wish you every success in your further efforts to develop metals
recovery in Minnesota, setting an example for other states by proving
that we can transform liabilities which today pose an environmental
threat, into productive new materials for reuse by industry, and
productive new jobs for Minnesotans.
Thank you once again for your dedication,
'STrncerel ,
Go rnor R dy Perpich
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
