Various types of legal <br />documents are used as classroom dictation to give <br />the student practical experience with the format <br />and terminology as it is used daily in a law office. <br />Vocabulary development and transcription accuracy <br />are of major importance in the specialized program. <br />Legal Typewriting <br />Each student is required to prepare specific legal <br />documents. Format and content of the required <br />documents has been gathered and established as <br />authentic by continual contact with contemporary <br />law offices. The student completes specific <br />assignments and accumulates a portfolio of <br />completed documents which may be used as <br />examples when seeking employment. <br />*MEDICAL <br />Medical Terminology and Transcription <br />Medical vocabulary is stressed throughout this <br />course. Application of acquired shorthand <br />knowledge is called upon to help create a rapid and <br />accurate ability in the transcription of difficult <br />medical dictation. Utilization of professionally <br />prepared medical dictation tapes is an integral part <br />of this course. <br />Medical Typewriting <br />Various forms of medical insurance have created <br />a proliferation of medical forms. By the use of <br />practice forms, a student is given exposure to a <br />wide variety of example forms. Various methods of <br />case presentation, medical records, and special <br />typing projects unique to a medical office are <br />utilized to give the student experience in a very <br />technical area. <br />"Program available only if 10 or more students are enrolled in the <br />course. <br />Legal Office Procedures <br />The course is designed to present an overview of <br />office procedures in the legal field. Application and <br />exposure is given to legal documents, terms, and <br />special duties involved in legal procedures. <br />Business Law <br />An introduction into the origin and development <br />of law, courts, and court procedures. It includes a <br />study of law relating to contracts and negotiable <br />instruments. The course is designed to acquaint the <br />student with the principles of law and their <br />importance to an employer in the everyday conduct <br />of business. <br />Medical Office Procedures <br />A medical office must function smoothly with a <br />maximum ability to cope with emergencies. How to <br />handle the telephone, an irate patient and answer <br />questions about a bill all at the same time is <br />discussed as part of procedures unique to a <br />medical office. Test material specifically to help <br />train medical office personnel is utilized to give the <br />student the broadest background possible for entry <br />as a secretary in a medical office. <br />Anatomy and Physiology <br />The major importance in the course is to help the <br />student acquire a basic vocabulary with a relative <br />degree of understanding. There is no intent to <br />present the material in depth; but, as with any <br />specialty, the more exposure a student has to basic <br />information, the better prepared the individual will <br />be to meet unfamiliar circumstances when they <br />arise. <br />
