Consider Approving Joint Powers Agreement and Authorize Entering into a
Partnership with the State of Minnesota BCA Violent Crime Reduction Unit
Police Chief Erika Scheider briefly highlighted this item as detailed in the Request
for Council Action and related attachments dated January 29, 2024.
Councilmember Etten asked if the officer being appointed to the task force would
office in Roseville.
Chief Scheider explained similar to how the Police Department does the SRO's,
they are officed in Roseville and then the bulk of their day would be officed out of
a space in Maplewood. The expectation is this officer would be coming to
Roseville, checking in, attending the investigative meetings, staying focused in
Roseville, and then collaborate with other investigators.
Councilmember Etten explained he and Chief Scheider had an opportunity to tour
the facility for the Police Department and one of the things talked about was getting
vehicles. He wondered if another vehicle would be needed.
Chief Scheider indicated the vehicle is covered under the State funding.
Councilmember Etten asked if there were any concerns in the hiring environment,
they have about back filling.
