Due to limited funds and varying viewpoints of individual <br />9 property owners, as to the desirability of such installations, the City has established this <br />10 policy to define its street lighting program. <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 II.Policy Statement <br />14 The City shall adopt and utilize the following standard policy for the installation, <br />15 maintenance, and funding of street lighting. It is important to establish a consistent, <br />16 equitable approach, relating to the method of selecting the locations for streetlights, to <br />17 insure fair and reasonable treatment for property owners. Streetlighting in all areas of the <br />18 City shall follow the requirements detailed below. <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 III.Conditions <br />22 All new lights installed shall be full cutoff lights. <br />23 Standard residential and commercial streetlight types will be adopted by the City <br />24 Council. All new streetlighting must be consistent with the adopted City standards. <br />25 Pedestrian level lighting may be considered in areas where there is a sidewalk or <br />26 pathway. <br />27 Variations to the City standard street light types will be allowed only by City Council <br />28 action. Extra costs associated with variations to the City standard, both installation and <br />29 O& Mongoing operation and maintenance costs, will be the responsibility of the <br />30 benefiting properties. <br />All street l <br />31 ighting designs shall consider industry standards, safety, uniformity, lighting <br />32 intensity and cost. <br />33 Installation of any telecommunications devices on streetlights shall be subject to the <br />34 review and approval of the City Council. <br />35 Qualifying requests for streetlights may be scheduled for installation in a subsequent <br />36 year if the City Council determines sufficient funds are not available in the current City <br />37 budget. <br />38 On projects where pedestrian level lighting is desiredinstalled, a continuous level of <br />39 light should be maintained for the design. Spacing would be determined applying <br />40 engineering standards.
