<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 9/9/2024 <br />Item No.: 7.b. <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br /> <br />Item Description: Consider Appointments to the Equity and Inclusion Commission <br />1 <br />2 Background <br />3 On August 22, the City Council interviewed applicants interested in appointment to the Equity and <br />4 Inclusion Commission. The City Council will consider applicants for the Equity and Inclusion Commission <br />5(EIC). Under the ordinance that created the EIC, Section 205.02 Membership states that the commission <br />6 will consist of 7 members appointed by the City Council and further states that "Members should reflect <br />7 the diverse makeup of the community..." That same section states that the diversity of the commission is <br />8 important so as to "contribute to a comprehensive understanding of equity and inclusion, reflective of the <br />9 different lived experiences of the community." With these being the first appointments to the new <br />10 commission, it is in the best interest of everyone in the community that the commission is set up for <br />11 success with diverse and balanced representation that has a strong foundational understanding of equity <br />12 and inclusion principles. <br />13 <br />14 Equity and Inclusion Commission– seven (7) vacancies <br />15 3 vacancies for a term ending March 31, 2028 <br />16 2 vacancies for a term ending March 31, 2027 <br />17 2 vacancies for a term ending March 31, 2026 <br />18 <br />19 Each council member was asked to select their top applicants for consideration for appointment. They <br />20 are listed in alphabetical order on Attachment 1. <br />21 <br />22 Policy Objectives <br />23 The city’s Appointment and Reappointment policy outlines the notification and selection process for <br />24 advisory commissions. The intent is to establish a fair and open notification and selection process that <br />25 encourages all Roseville residents to apply for appointments. In addition, the city’s Strategic Racial <br />26 Equity Action Plan (SREAP) has identified diversifying city commissions as a high impact area of focus. <br />27 Racially and ethnically diverse policy makers and advisors are key to serving residents and other <br />28 customers with excellence. <br />29 <br />30 Equity Impact Summary <br />31 Racially and ethnically diverse policy-makers and policy advisors are key to serving residents and other <br />32 customers with excellence. The role of appointed boards, commissions, and councils is to advise the <br />33 Mayor and Council on city policies and practices.
