<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 9/16/2024 <br />Item No.: 7.a. <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br /> <br />Item Description: Joint Meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />1 <br />2 Background <br />3 Each year the City Council meets with the various commissions to review activities and <br />4 accomplishments, and discuss upcoming work and other issues that need to be <br />5 considered. <br />6 <br />7 Since our last joint meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission has carried out the <br />8 following activities: <br />9 Conducted Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat (SWOT) Assessment of the <br />10 City's Parks and Recreation offerings (attachment 1) and guided staff through <br />11 prioritization and actions to be considered based on the SWOT assessment. <br />12 Reviewed plan for the new park at 2381 County Road B. <br />13 Reviewed and provided feedback on a more inclusive playground at Lexington Park. <br />14 Discussed approach to replacement of the wading pool at Rosebrook Park. <br />15 Conducted a park tour at Lexington Park and Rosebrook Park. <br />16 Provided feedback on new approach to Rosefest and attended many events! <br />17 Provided feedback on improving the quality of Live at the Rog including the type of <br />18 acts, frequency of shows, and the addition of food trucks. <br />19 Provided recommendations regarding park dedication on three developments. <br />20 Discussed the City’s approach to land acquisition for parks. <br />21 Reviewed strategies for offsetting the possible loss of Veterans Park if a new public <br />22 works and parks maintenance facility is constructed on that location. <br />23 Conducted annual review of, and provided feedback on the deer management <br />24 program, <br />25 Completed playground replacement at Keya Park. <br />26 Engaged with the Community: <br />27 o Participated in four planning meetings for new park at 2381 County Road B. <br />28 o Commission members served on the Bike Planning Committee. <br />29 o A Commission member is serving on the Natural Resources Plan Technical <br />30 Advisory Committee (TAC). <br />31 o Participated in planning meetings for new playground at Lexington Park. <br />32 o Commissioners shared information and heard feedback from the public at <br />33 weekly Discovery Your Parks events throughout the summer. <br />34 Received report on, and provided feedback regarding Reach for Resources. <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />Qbhf!3!pg!38 <br /> <br />
