The name Sunset is recommended as a nod to the park's location on the western edge of
Roseville (as the sun sets in the west), and as a non-specific reference to a natural
occurrence. This recommendation is in alignment with Policy # 40.

It should be noted that there was some neighborhood interest in the name Red Gate Park,
which was the name that the previous owners had for the property. However, the
Commission felt that this name is not in alignment with the "significant contribution" clause
of Policy #40.

Policy Objectives
Per City Code 201.07.B - At least once per year, each Commission shall meet with the City Council to
report on the previous year's work and to discuss work plans and pending issues for the upcoming year.

Equity Impact Summary
The Parks and Recreation Commission discusses and considers equity in all of the recommendations
that it makes. In the past year, the Commission has prioritized a number of strategic equity initiatives
including naming Keya Park, Reach for Resources inclusion service, and constructing more inclusive
park spaces (paved pathways at the arboretum, more inclusive playgrounds).

Budget Implications
Not applicable.

Staff Recommendations
Receive the Parks and Recreation Commission presentation regarding their work, discuss,
and consider providing direction on future work.

Consider a motion to officially name the new park at 2381 County Rd. B "Sunset Park."

Requested Council Action
Receive the Parks and Recreation Commission presentation regarding their work, discuss, and
consider providing direction on future work.

Consider a motion to officially name the new park at 2381 County Rd.
