Equity and Inclusion Commission Minutes <br />January 15, 2025 <br />Page 3 of 3 <br /> <br />92 <br />93 Mr. Montez provided a quick update on the next meeting date and the disclosure of the financial <br />94 interest form. TheCommission expressed interest in continuing to work together and explore <br />95 new opportunities for impactful work. <br />96 <br />97 Mr. Montez discussed the open Commission seats and suggested providing updates on ongoing <br />98 projects in the City. <br />99 <br />100 Chair Barze inquired about updates on the bike project. <br />101 <br />102 Mr. Montez mentioned his focus on language access and explained the current challenges in <br />103 providing reliable language access services, including translation in various languages and <br />104 American Sign Language. He suggested the city explore partnerships for regular translation <br />105 services to improve communication with diverse communities. He highlighted his work on <br />106 language access, emphasizing the need for predictable and reliable services for different <br />107 languages. He also discussed policy updates around gender inclusivity in City programming, <br />108 ensuring participants can identify with their gender. <br />109 <br />110 Commissioner LaGrange asked about the progress of Employee Resource Groups. <br />111 <br />112 Mr. Montz explained that the City was in the strategic planning phase. He noted that once the <br />113 strategic plan is finalized, they will explore the formation of Employee Resource Groups. He <br />114 explained that the current focus was completing the strategic plan to guide future actions. He <br />115 mentioned that the Equity, Inclusion Action Team would be a test run for how Employee <br />116 Resource Groups would function.
