conversation with the commission to identify areas the commission could meaningfully
partner and contribute to our Equity and Inclusion work in the City. This led to a
conversation about the commission's strengths and areas of interest they could partner with
the City to support our Equity and Inclusion work.

February: In February, staff informed the commission there would be a presentation to
council about its work at an upcoming council meeting. Staff also presented the draft
strategic plan to the commission. Presenting the strategic plan was in preparation for a
recommendation to partner with the commission on the administration department's
development of goals and work plan items that will support the city's strategic plan.

For reference purposes, all of the commission minutes are included as Attachment 7.

The next phase to get the commission up and running in full force focuses on integrating
the commission's scope, duties and functions into the city's work. Staff sees an opportunity
for the Equity and Inclusion Commission to collaborate on a department work plan tied to
the strategic plan process. Since the strategic plan and department work plans are still
being developed, staff proposes starting small by seeking input from the commission
specifically on the Administration Department's work plan. As council and staff refine the
overall goals and objectives, the commission can help explore ways to integrate equity
throughout department work plan. This is a new process, and specifics will be determined
as the strategic plan evolves. This also aligns with the Scope, Duties and Functions as laid
out in the ordinance.

Policy Objectives
The commission was created to help ensure that city policies and operations consider
equity and inclusion for all residents. By incorporating the commission’s insights into
department work plans, the city is working toward inclusive decision-making that reflects
the needs of the community. Additionally, the strategic plan identifies community,
accountability and equity as values that help guide decision making.

Equity Impact Summary
A strong, connected community benefits from a variety of perspectives in decision-making.
Involving the commission in city operations strengthens relationships between residents
and local government, making the city more inclusive and responsive.

Budget Implications
None.

Staff Recommendations
Before moving forward, the City Council is asked to weigh in on whether this next phase
aligns with their vision for the commission’s role. Feedback will help ensure that the
commission’s work continues to support the city’s broader goals while staying true to its
original scope, duties and functions while aligning with the city's values.

Requested Council Action
Provide feedback on the commission's work plan.

Qbhf!6:!pg!354
