May participate in the Equity and Inclusion Action team that will operationalize <br />37 departmental equity and inclusion work plans throughout the city that advance the SREAP <br />38 priorities. <br />39 D. Perform other duties and functions as requested by city staff or the City Council. <br />42 <br />43 The commission held its first meeting in September 2024. The general plan for the first 6 <br />44 months was to bring the commission up-to-speed on the work the city has done <br />45 surrounding equity and inclusion, provide a foundation of understanding and <br />46 comprehension, and begin discussing the most appropriate way to integrate the advisory <br />47 commission into city operations. <br />48 <br />49 The work to-date has been structured intentionally in 3 phases: <br />50 1. Foundation Building - Providing onboarding, background and history focused on the <br />51 work the City has already done relating to equity and inclusion (September- <br />52 November) <br />53 2. Operational Understanding - Outlining an understanding of how the city's <br />54 organizational structure operates to better understand how work is done within the <br />55 City, and identifying common definitions and language. Highlighting areas of <br />56 strengths of the commission members to support future work plan areas. <br />57(December-January) <br />58 3. Work Planning - Discussing the City's new strategic plan and how that will guide the <br />59 work of the city and commissions. Gaining commission insight, staff insight and <br />60 council insight into what will be the commission's work plan (February-April) <br />61 <br />62 Below are the discussion topics from each meeting: <br />63 <br />64 September: In September, staff led a conversation with the commission that shared the <br />65 history of the city's Equity and Inclusion work, and reviewed the City's community <br />66 aspirations and how our Equity and Inclusion work is a part of our community aspirations. <br />67 <br />68 October: In October, the commission elected its chair and vice chair, received new <br />69 commissioner onboarding presentation from staff, and began a conversation to review the <br />70 Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan (SREAP), its purpose, and goals. <br />71 <br />72 November: In November, staff continued the conversation and review of the SREAP. <br />73 <br />74 December: In December, the commission approved its 2025 meeting dates. The SREAP <br />75 conversation continued with a focus on creating shared definitions of commonly used <br />76 language in Equity and Inclusion work. Staff also led a presentation about the city's <br />77 organizational structure including commissions, as well as shared the long range Equity <br />78 and Inclusion Plan for the city. <br />79 <br />80 January: In January, staff led a conversation reviewing the city's Equity and Inclusion <br />81 Toolkit and its role in the Request for Council Action process.
