street. In addition, bituminous pathways typically have two-foot clear zones on either side of the path
for safety and maintenance.
Once the path reaches Roselawn Avenue W,
side of Roselawn. Pedestrians and cyclists would either need to use the painted parking lane/shoulder
along Roselawn or cross to the existing pathway on the south side of Roselawn, which is in the city
of Falcon Heights. Providing a safe and accessible mid-block crossing of Roselawn Avenue W at
that location would require further design efforts to identify the appropriate treatment and ensure the
improvements
________________________________________
6. Cost Considerations
A preliminary estimate for the construction of an improved pathway along the Aldine Street right-of-
way would vary based on the final design, materials, and width chosen. The City typically installs 8-
to 10-foot-wide multimodal pathways for these types of connections, but could elect to install a 6-
foot wide concrete sidewalk. General construction costs are estimated as follows:
6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk: Estimated at $80$100 per linear foot
812-foot-wide bituminous pathway (multimodal): Estimated at $100$130 per linear foot
For a 590-foot pathway, the estimated cost for installation would range between $47,000 and
$77,000, depending on material choice and width.
Additional costs would include tree removal (estimated at $25,000$75,000), signage/amenities
(estimated at $2,000$5,000), and ADA-compliant curb ramps (estimated at $5,000-$10,000 each).
With engineering costs factored in, the installation of a pathway is estimated to cost between $84,000
and $177,000. The wide range of costs is contingent upon the various unknown factors not readily
available at the time of this feasibility memo. Additional considerations such as tree plantings,
fencing, minor stormwater conveyance, and intersection lighting were not able to be considered at
this stage.
In addition to pathway construction, costs for potential mid-block crossing improvements at
Roselawn Avenue W must be considered. These improvements might include curb bump-outs,
median refuges, or other more intensive enhancements, with costs ranging between $45,000 and
$80,000 based on the complexity of the treatment. If mid-block crosswalk enhancements were
installed, the total cost for a pathway could be between $129,000 and $257,000.
________________________________________
7. Environmental and Natural Resource Impacts
The Aldine Street corridor is heavily wooded, particularly within the 30-foot right-of-way, where
large, mature trees are present. Removal of these trees would be necessary to accommodate a
pathway, and such actions would impact the neighborhood and adjacent land owners.
In terms of stormwater, the introduction of impervious surfaces would increase runoff, but the
corridor is already served by existing storm sewer infrastructure, meaning no major drainage issues
!Qbhf!5!
Qbhf!56!pg!464
