Excavation for any purpose shall not reduce vertical <br />or lateral support for any foundation or adjacent foundation without first underpinning or <br />protecting the foundation against detrimental lateral or vertical movement, or both. <br />MinneapolisCodeofOrdinances <br />89.30.-Requirementsandstandards. <br />(10) Adjoining property shall be protected from damage <br />during any construction work on the permit site. Excavations for any purpose shall not <br />remove lateral support from any footing or foundation without first protecting the footing or <br />foundation against settlement or lateral translation. The City may require the submission <br />of a soils investigation report and/or shoring plan. <br />Proposedcodelanguagefor2026MinnesotaResidentialCode <br />R401.5.Excavationnearfoundations. Where excavation will reduce support from any <br />adjoining public or private property foundation, a registered design professional shall <br />prepare an assessment of the structure as determined from examination of the structure, <br />the review oof available design documents and, if necessary, excavation of test pits. The <br />registered design professional shall determine the requirements for underpinning and <br />protection and prepare site-specific plans, details, and sequence of work for submission. <br />Such support shall be provided by underpinning, sheeting and bracing, or by other means <br />acceptable to the building official. <br />Qbhf!26!pg!322 <br /> <br />
