He've got this same kind of study and storm sewer
proposa 1 for our area 0 'I'he same thing where they wanted to "manage"
the water level - prevent excess water in times of heavy storm
and drainage. As of today, they manage that water so beautifully
that, number 1, they lowered the level to ,-"hat it was naturally each
year. Of course, it would raise or drop depending on the weather,
but they initially lowered it so when we did have a drought, we
now have the destruction of three ponds. The one at the corner
of Cleveland and Roselawn virtually dried up this summer and I
really feel that if the natural level of that pond had been kept
as nature moves it up and down, that would not have been virtually
a drought ridden, barren ~rea. In fact, it's an eyesore now, which
was once a most beautiful place. The pond on north Rosewood Lane
~!'Ja s dra ined severely and tHO or three lots were developed. That
pond is nothing but a mushland of maybe a circumference of 50 feet.
A third pond which is up by Skillman is again nothing but a mushland.
Those three areas in the neighborhood have been destroyed. Now,
is this what we mean by managing the lake levelo I think that's
something that should be checked in too

Secondly, you report that you surprisingly haven't found oil
in this pond or this lake. I predict you haven't found oil because
you've had natural sheet drainage, and as water runs across any kind
of material for a long period or a long distance through grass -
through anything - droppings of oil are going to be pulled out of
that water, but the minute you channel ito immediately through your
pipeso (inaudible) that's \}hy you haVE' to go to a filtration
center there because you I re rushing tha-t ~'}ater to'-vard the lake
and there's no natural dropping away of these foreign bodies, and I
think these are things that really should be looked into. All I
can say is, I get emotional when I think of the destruction of three
beautiful ponds in our neighborhood through what was called manage-
ment of the water level.

32
