6

this area - the proposed development of this area by the
city, the potential for putting a hotel/motel type unit in the
southeast corner of this area where Highway 35% peals out to
the north and breaks away from 36, I think it's all well and
good for the city to propose or plan these things in the future
and these projects are not (inaudible) there's an eye to the future
when these road improvements are contemplated, and certainly we
are not against progress and future development, but we don't think
we should have to pay for it. (Inaudible) ,You're not receiving
any complaints from the people that are using the road. We're
not against improving it, despite the fact that you don't have
petitions from the people that are using it, but the cost should
be prorated over a larger number of people.

MAYOR DEMOS: While we may not be receiving complaints from
the users, when you look at a road in the condition that Long
Lake Road is, we have to agree that it's taking an inordinate
amount of our maintenance money to keep up things like this.
Are we just going to start filling these big crevices (inaudible)
hear citizens who are complaining because their roads have not
been properly maintained. I would hate to see a bigger share
of our maintenance money (inaudible).

MR. HESS: Our primary reason for being (inaudible) is that
we don't feel our property is being improved and we stand ready
to challenge that, if necessary. We who live and work down there
have not been complaining, but we would agree with you if the
city in its capacity for wisdom and knowledge appreciates the
fact that the road is deteriorating, and we would be willing to
share in the cost.

MAYOR DEMOS: Your address is on Terminal Road.

MR. HESS: The front lineal footage is simply an arbitrary
(inaudible) You could just pick a number. We happen to own
30% of the lineal footage in the area.

MAYOR DEMOS: On both Long Lake and Terminal?

MR. HESS: Our property runs around the curve and we have
approximately 3082 lineal feet of frontage. I think that makes us
by far the largest property owner in the area. But if we were
the smallest, the complaint would be the same.

COUNCIL~ffiN KEHR: You stated you would be willing to pay your
fair share. What do you consider your fair share?

MR. HESS: I don't have a magic number for that, but I have
heard that the residential are paying 25% and the ~$A funds are
paying the balance and I would suggest that 25% would be equitable
here as well.

MAYOR DEMOS: I would hate to see this turned down.

COUNCILMAN CURLEY: I would like to table this for a while.
