<br />,207 <br />1-26 <br /> <br />1-27 <br /> <br />1-28 <br /> <br />1-29 <br /> <br />In the absence of the building inspector, the governing body shalJ. a oint a <br />substitute or temporary building inspector vlho shall assume all of t.he duties <br />and responsibilities of the building inspector mentioned in this code. <br /> <br />Within the text of this code, references are made to specific state, Federal, <br />City, Trade and Profefessional publications or standards relating to building <br />construction, incorporating said publications or parts thereof in the bod:.' of <br />this code. (Authority for the adoption of regulations by reference is given <br />in the "Hinnesota Statutes 1945" -471.62). Provisions of these publications, <br />or parts thereof, adopted by reference shall be as much a part of this code as <br />though they had been set out in full herein. <br /> <br />It shall be the duty of the Inspectors to stop the construction, repair, al- <br />teration, renewal or demolishing of any building or structure when any work <br />done thereon is carried on in violation of this code or in a reckless, care- <br />less, unsafe or improper manner. <br /> <br />It shall be the duty of the Police Authority, when called upon b~l an Inspector <br />to perforra such duties as may be necessary to enforce the provisions of this <br />code. <br /> <br />1-30 ~fuen any work shall have been stopped by an Inspector for any reason whatsoever, <br />it shall not again be resumed until the Inspector shall have been satisfied <br />that the reason for work stoppage has been completely removed. <br /> <br />1-31 It shall be the duty of the Inspector to pass upon all questions relating to <br />the strength, durability, appearance and general workmanship of buildings or <br />structures. <br /> <br />1-32 The Inspector shall examine all buildings or structures for which applicat5.on <br />has been made for a permit to enlarge, remove or alter such building or structure, <br />to determine whether or not such permit may be granted. <br /> <br />1-33 The Inspectors are hereby given authority to m~{e such tests or order such tests <br />to be made as he may deem necessary to determine the safety of the condition of <br />any structUre, building or part thereof, material or machinery, which it becomes <br />their duty under thE1Provisions of this code, to inspect. <br /> <br />1-:34 If, in the opinion o;f the inspector, any building or structure shall, from any <br />cause whatsoever, be in a dangerous condition to persons or property, it shall <br />be his duty to notify the owner thereof of such condition in writing, and a.t the <br />same time the inspector shall advise the owner that unless repairs are made <br />within thirty (30) days of that notification, the inspector has the authority <br />to cause the repairs to be made and the expense caused may be tecovered by <br />the governing body from the owner. <br /> <br />1~35 The inspector shall have the authority to causa the repair or reconstruction <br />of any building or structure which is dangerous or unsafe to persons pI' prop- <br />erty, and the cost thereof may be recovered by the municipality from the owner. <br /> <br />1-36 If, in the opinion of the inspector, any building is unsafe or unfit for <br />further use, the inspector shall reconnnend to the governing body that such <br />building be condemned. . <br /> <br />1-37 Whenever the inspector recommends the condemnation of any building or structure, <br />the owner shall be granted a hearing by the governing body upon not less than <br />twenty (2~) nor more than thirty (30) days' notice and after such hearing, <br />the governing body may in its discretion order Illither the repair or the demoli~ <br />tion of such building or structure. <br /> <br />-4- <br />
