<br />U <br />/..1 'J tI <br /> <br />6-4$A All that part of any chimney above the roof line shall be constructed <br />with pressed brick mater:Laj.. This shall be required regardless or the <br />type of chimney used inside the building or the particular purpose of <br />the chimney, except chimneys described in 6-46 <br /> <br />6-46 Fabricated chirrmeys, designed for particular types and methods of <br />heating ?nd meeting or exceeding the runctional requirements speciri- <br />cally mentioned in this code, may be approved by the governing body <br />of the municipality. All such chimneys and material shall be app- <br />roved by the National Board or Fire Underwriters. These chimneys, <br />whcn used shall not require brick tops as speciried in 6-45A. <br /> <br />6-41 No smoke pipe shall be placed within twelve (12) inches or any woodwork <br />or wooden lath or plaster partition or ceiling unless the surface above <br />the plaster be protected by metal lath and plaster of any approved fire <br />resistent material. <br /> <br />6-48 Where smoke pipes pass through a wooden alth and plaster partition, they <br />shall be guarded by galvanized iron ventilated thimbles at least twelve, <br />(12) inches larger in diameter than the pipes or by galvanized iron thim- <br />bles built in at least eight (8) inches of brick work or other incom- <br />bustible material. <br /> <br />6-49 No smoke pipe shall pass through any floor or roor having wooden frame- <br />work or.covering. <br /> <br />6-50 The use of a smoke pipe rather than a chimney shall be prohibited. <br /> <br />6-51 No wooden beams, joists or rarters shall be placed within two (2) <br />inches or the outside face of a chimney whether it be for smoke, air .r.....Im~8t <br />or any other purpose. <br /> <br />6-52 The back and sides of fireplaces herearter erected shall bw of solid <br />masonry or reinforoedcconcrete, not less than eight (8) inches in thick- <br />ness. A lining of fire bfick at least tw (2) inches thick or other' <br />approved material shall be provided unless the thiclmess is twelve inches. <br /> <br />, <br />6-53 Fireplaces shall have hearths of brick, stone, tile or other approved <br />non-combustible material supported on a rireproor slab or on brick <br />trimmer arches. Such hearths shall extend at least,sixteen (16) inches <br />outside of the chimney breast and not less than twelve (12) inches be- <br />yond each side of the fireplace opening along the chimney breast. The <br />combined thiclmess or hearth and supporting construction shall be not less <br />than six (6) inches at any point. <br /> <br />6-54 Wooden forms or centers used in the construction of that part of the <br />supporting construction which is below the hearth or the fireplace shall <br />be removed when the supporting construction or the hearth is conpleted. <br /> <br />b-55 No heater shall be placed in a fireplace which does not conform to the <br />requirements of this section or is not provided with a fiue, except <br />electric or gas heaters of a type specifically approved for such installa- <br />tion. <br /> <br />6-56 Ends of all wood joists and girders imbedded in masonry walls shall be <br />fire cut. <br /> <br />-30- <br />
