Metal lath and gypsum plaster or <br />gypsum lath and ibibaster will be acceptable.. <br />Openings from the building into garage shall be restricted to a single door- <br />way; such opening shall be provided with a metal, metal covered or solid <br />wooden door of not less thqn one and three-fourths (1-3/4) inches nominal <br />thickness equipped with an approved self-closing device. <br />Where the garage is connected to the building proper by a stairway, such <br />stairway shall be enclosed. The enclosure shall have a fire resistance <br />rating of at least one (1) hour. Floors shall be without pits or depressions. <br /> <br />6-35 The walls of chimneys used for stoves, ranges, fire-places, heating furnaces <br />or other heating appliances regardless of the type of fuel to be used, shall <br />be built of brick, concrete, stone or hailow tile of such thickness and <br />construction as is hereafter specified. <br /> <br />6-36 All chimneys, irrespective of which materials the walls are built, shall <br />have a nue of not less than eight (8) inches by eight (8) inches. Where <br />coal is to be used for heating purposes, the nue shall be not less than <br />eight (8) inches by twelve (12) inches. All flues to!',e set with acid <br />resistant mortar. <br /> <br />6-31 Solid brick or concrete chimneys shall not be less than four (4) inches <br />thick exclusive of flue lining. A standard size brick laid flatwise shall <br />be deemed to fulfill this requirement for brick chinmeys. <br /> <br />6-38, Hollow tile chimneys shall have a minumum thickness of 'ight (8) inches. <br /> <br />6-39 Hollow tile may be used in the construction of a chimney only where said <br />chimney is part of an exterior tile wall. <br /> <br />6-40 Chimneys shall extend at least three (3) feet above the highest point where <br />they pass through the roof of a building and at least two ( 2) feet higher than any <br />fidge within ten (10) feet of such ehimney. <br /> <br />6-41 Chimneys shall be properly cast with brick, terra cotta, stone, east iron, <br />concrete or other approved non-combustible weather proofed materia18 <br /> <br />6-42 Chimneys shall be wholly supported on masonry or self supporting fire pjroof <br />construction. <br /> <br />6-43 ,Foundations of an ezterior chimney shall start telow the frost line. <br /> <br />6-44 No chimney shall be corbeled from a wall more than six (6) inches; nor shall <br />a chimney be corbeled from a wall which is leGS than twelve (12) inches in <br />thickness unless it projects equally on each side of the wall: provided that in <br />the second story of two (2) story dwellings the corbeling of chimneys on the <br />exterior of the enclosing walls may equal the wall thickness. In every case, <br />the corbeling shall not exceed one (1) inch projection for each coarse of <br />brick protected. <br /> <br />6-45 No change in the size or shape of chimney where the chimney passes through <br />the roof shall be made within a distance of six (6) inches above or below the <br />roof joisj or rafters. <br /> <br />-29- <br /> <br />------~ -- <br />--- - ---- ~--- <br />
