<br />240 <br /> <br />6-108 In all cases where a liquid capacity of more than one thousand (1000) <br />gallons is required, a special permit shall be necessary. This special <br />pernut for the construction of a sewage disposal system shall be issued <br />only after the applic,:mt has furnished the governing body with a complete <br />'plan designed by a registered engineer and approved by the State Health <br />Department in writing. <br /> <br />6-109 The sewer line between the buildinF and the disposal tank shall have water <br />tight joints. This sewer pipe shall have a gradient of not less than <br />one-fourth (1/4) inch per foot of pipe except by special permission of the <br />inspector. <br /> <br />6-110 Inlet and outlet corillections of the tank and of aach compartment thereof <br />shall be submerged and baffled so as to obtain effective retention of scum <br />and sludge. Scum storage volume (space bet.veen the liquid surface and the <br />top of the inlet and outlet devices) shall be not less than fourteen(14) <br />per cent of the total required liquid capacity. <br />The tank shall be constructed in such a manner as to assure its being water <br />tight to prevent the entrance of r~in water, drainage or ground water. It <br />shall be constructed of sound and durable material not subject to excessive <br />corrosion or decay. <br />Access to each compartment of the tank for inspection and sludge removal <br />shall be provided. Each inspection opening shall be provided with a re- <br />movable coYer. The inlet and outlet devices shall be made accessible by a <br />removable cover. Each tank shall be provided with a four (4) inch stand- <br />pipe, the top of which shall be level with the ground or slightly above the <br />ground and securely plugged. <br /> <br />6-111 The inlet baffle or submerged pipe shall extend approxi.rnately six (6) inches <br />b'low the liquid surface. It shall also extend above the liquid surface at <br />leas~ to the crown of the inlet sewer. <br />The outlet ~arfle or submerged pipe and the baffles or submerged pipes between <br />compartments sliall extend below the liquid depth. These baffles shall also <br />extend above the liquid level to provide for scum storage; they shall be not <br />less than six (6) inches above the liquid levle nor less than six (6) inches <br />below the inlet baffle. <br />Each baffle shall have a clearance between baffle and inside edge of tank of <br />not less than seven (7) inches. <br /> <br />6-112 There shall be at least two (2) inches between the under side of the tank <br />top and the top of inlet and outlet pipes or baffles and partit.ops to pro- <br />vide the required ventilation of the tank and disposal field or seepage pits <br />through the main building stack. <br /> <br />6-113 I-fetal septic tanks shall comply with the connnercial standard for the particu- <br />lar tyPe of tank being used. These tanks shall have the required capacity <br />as described in this code. <br /> <br />6-114 l{hen seepage pits are used with subsurface disposal trenches, the filter <br />material in the trenches shall terminate at least six (6) feet from the pit <br />excavation. The portion of the trench lying between the end of the filter <br />material and the pit shall not be excavated below the grade of the tile. <br />Bell and spigot pipe with tight joints shall be used in connecting the tile <br />to the pit. Wherever possible, the bottom of the pit Shall be more than ten <br />(10) feet aboe the water table; where~this is impossible the construction <br />shall require approval by the State Department of Health. <br /> <br />-37- <br />
