<br />Regular Meeting Planning Commission <br />WednesdaYD June 39 1964 ~ 7~30 P.M. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Nelson at 7~40 P.M. Members <br />present: Nelson~ Motl>> Sigford, Anderson>> Lund. Absent~ Soike <br />Planning Consultant Dahlgren also presents Engineer Soutter absent. <br /> <br />Anderson movedD Lund seconded>> that minutes of the regular meeting of May 6>> <br />1964~ and the special meeting of May 20D 1964>> be approved as submitted. <br />Carried unanimouslyo <br /> <br />File 64=204 = Murphy Motor Freight = Special use permit to construct a truck <br />terminal on property zoned 1-2>> Long Lake Road and County Road B-2. Mr. DudleYD <br />Attorney>> and Herman Selz>> Vice President of Murphy Motor Freight both stated <br />that the building will be 860' x 90Q and that 250 employees will use the parking <br />lot. The plot plan submitted did not show sufficient setback and screening~ <br />the petitioners>> however, said they would comply with the ordinance. <br />Anderson moved>> Motl seconded~ that we recommend that the special use permit <br />be granted subject to the following conditions~ <br /> <br />I. Proper setbacks and landscaping be complied with <br />2. Bond be posted for performance of the screening as provided in <br />the ordinance <br /> <br />Carried unanimously. <br /> <br />File 64= 173 B Rezoning application from R= 1 to R=3 from Harley Grayden. <br />Jim Borden representing the petitioner requested a further 30 day postponement. <br />This matter having been postponed twice before>> the secretary suggested that the <br />Council be notified of the delay and to ask for another extension of 30 days. <br />Membrez moved>> Motl seconded>> to notify the Council. Carried unanimously. <br /> <br />File 64=190 - Rezoning application from R-l to R=3 from Cyril Sheehy = property <br />located at Lexington Avenue and County Road Do The question of County Road 0 <br />being only one half street and the hazard of having access to the proposed apart- <br />ment building off of Lexington on a private drive-way created some concerno <br />Sigford finally moved>> Anderson seconded>> to grant the rezoning request on the <br />condition that an additional 15 feet be dedicated to widen County Road "0" which <br />at present is only 30 feetD and that the street be improved and cost to be paid <br />by petitioner>> to eliminate the drive-way for access off of Lexington Avenue <br />(access to the proposed building to be from County Road D)o <br />Sigford~ Anderson~ Motl and Membrez voting "Aye" ~ Nelson and Lund voting "Nay" 0 <br />Carried by a majority vote. <br /> <br />File 64=200 = Rezoning from R=l to R=3 and Special use permit from Ben Freeman <br />property at Larpenteur Avenue>> east of Mackubino Ben Freeman~ Mro SchwaYD <br />Attorney~ and Mr. Wehrman presented plans of the proposed apartment buildings <br />and the parking locationo The proposal involves the construction of 190 units <br />of which 60 would be two-bedroom units>> the property consists of 802 acres <br />which Mr. Freeman owns. The misleading publicity which appeared in the news~ <br />papers stating that 910 units were going to be constructed on the Freeman <br />property and the rest of the area totalling approximately 60 acres~ brought many <br />people from the McCarrons Lake area in opposition to this proposal. Mrs. John <br />Taylorv 527 Ryan Avenue>> Chairman of the PoT.A. group of McCarrons Lake School <br />submitted a petition indicating that a resolution of the P.ToA. group was <br />adopted requesting that no apartment buildings be allowed on Larpenteur Avenue <br />between Dale and Rice Streets. Mrs. Taylor stated there are 22 buildings with <br />376 units already in Precinct 1 creating a burden on the school in the area. <br />
