-2-

from the area, for it was interfering with the necessary parking that he would
need for his motel. If the road remains, it would mean that the motel structure
would have to be considerably smaller tham the present plan and perhaps include
only 100 rooms at the most and no expansion of the motel would be allowed, nor
would convention facilities be permissible within the lot as it now stands with
the road as a barrier to expansion. It is not desirable to bu~ld a motel in a
very long structure. It is desirable to build it in a four story structure as
presented here. Mr. Pope suggested a special use permit be granted to Mr. Lofts-
garden to build the first part of the motel and while this is being done, the
necessary studies for, the future use and development of the area could be under-
taken to determine whether or not a road is needed in the area. If the future
development appears that the road would be necessary, then We must have the
road in the area. Mr. Pope very strongly wished to keep the road alternative
open for the future afi'q the fact that if the road does go i~lthere it will in-
crease the value of the surrounding property. Mrs. Demos rf,{quested that Mr.
Loftsgarden present to the planning commission site plans to ac~ually see the
structure and how it would fit on the property as it now exists; she wants to
see some architectural plans. She felt that not enough information had been
presented to the Commission tonight for them to mill,e an intelligent decision
as to the actual placement of the motel and its needs. Mr.. Loftsgarden
felt that a great deal of money had already been spent on the plans and to
draw out more detailed plans was excessive cost for him to have to bear.

Recommendation:
The motion was made by Mr. Kellett to lay this proposal over to July 1, at which
time more detailed plans should be presented to the Planning Commission. It was
seconded by Mr. Pope. The Ayes; ~1r. Membrez, Kellett, Pope, Demos, Edlund,
Johnson. The motion passed unanimously. Motion made to adjourn by Mr. Membrez,
seconded by Mr. Johnson. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
