<br />=3~ <br />Planning File 611~71 - Petition for Renaming of Forest Lake Cutoff to Old Highway 8 <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mro Harold Haglund, 2923 Forest Lake Cutoff, spoke in favor of changing the naIre to <br />Old Highway 80 He indicated that there are currently three different names for the same <br />street in three different connm.mitieso Because of this there is general confusioo for all <br />types of deliveries and for people who are attempting to locate a particular address, <br /> <br />ChainnaI1 ~mbrez stated that the petition signed by the residents on Forest Lake Cutoff <br />indicate that they desire the street naIre changed to Old Highway 8 and, therefore, he could <br />see no reason for not making the change 0 <br /> <br />Recomnendatioo <br /> <br />Mrso Demos Moved and Mro Kellett Seconded, that the Commission reconll1end approval for <br />renaming of Forest Lake Cutoff to Old Highway 80 Roll Call, Ayes: Pope, Eagles, Demos, <br />Kellett and ~rnbrez 0 Nays: None 0 <br /> <br />Planning File 612=71 ~ Richard Norman request for variance to rear yard setback at 981 <br />Lydia Avenue <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Mro Nonnan stated that his wife is an invalid and is required to swim three tines a day <br />for therapy purposes 0 She is lD1ab1e to go to public pools or beaches, He stated that he <br />was proposing to build an attached ooe story enclosed swimming pool on the rear of his <br />house to provide this needed rehabilitationo The Village Code requires a 30 foot rear yard <br />setback and the enclosure would extend to within 12 feet of the rear property line thereby <br />necessitating an l8 foot variance. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mro Abbot Rohn, 956 Lydia Avenue, presented a position paper to the Commission outlining <br />his opposition to the varianceo The main points of his opposition are as follows: <br /> <br />L The zaling code has stood the test of tiIre - 12 years. Please do not <br />aI low this variance to become the fi rst of its kind" <br /> <br />20 Value of surrolD1ding property is never enhanced by a residential varianceo <br /> <br />3. A SO foot long extensioo is out of place and out of character in the confines <br />of this neighborhood. <br /> <br />40 The pool area would rerely be another noise center to pollute our environmento <br /> <br />S. The pool will create traffic through my premises forcing me to spend an lD1- <br />necessary $500 for a defensive fence. <br /> <br />Mr. Mark and Mro Rooney from the LEG\L Aid Society and third year law students at the <br />University of Minnesota supported Mro RDhn's point of viewo <br /> <br />Mr. John Sauer, 983 Lydia Avenue, indicated that the Nonnans are fine neighbors and that <br />the new swinuning pool would certainly not depreciate the value of the property in the areao <br />
