"

Planning File 770 - Fire Station No. 3 Site Selection

Presentation

Mr. Floyd LeCuyer, Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department indicated that the Fire
Department personnel had held two meetings with Mr. Dahlgren, the Village Plarmer and
discussed the potential locations for a third fire station. After investigation and
consideration of the various sites, the Fire Department reaffirms its first choice for
a third fire station location at Western Avenue and County Road B.

Discussion

Mr. Ed O'Neill, 410 County Road B, asked if all possible sites had been investigatedo
Mr. LeCuyer stated that all the potential locations for a third fire station in the
area had been investigated.
A petition was presented to the Plarming Commission signed by residents in the neighbor-
hood of County Road B and Western indicating their opposition to the construction of
a third fire station at that location.
Mr. Richard Wagner, Irene Street, commented that a third fire station is a good idea
in the area, but the location was wrong and that it would have a depreciating effect on
the homes in the neighborhood.
Mr. John Kubanski, 2177 Irene, indicated that he is concerned about what would occur
on the remainder of the vacant property in the area of Western and County Road B where
the fire station would be located. He statEld that the people in the neighborhood wanted
it to remain zoned R-l for single family homes.
Mr. Kramer, 2285 Irene, also favored a third fire station in the area but was opposed
to any use other than single family on the remaining vacant property at Western and Dale.
Mr. Dahlgren discussed the pros and cons of the various sites that had been investigated.
He presented a site plan showing how the property on the southeast corner of County
Road B and Dale could be utilized for the development of a fire station.
Mr. LeCuyer indicated that the grade on Dale Street going south from County Road B is
steep and the Fire Department feels they would have great difficulty on that portion
of Dale Street in the wintertime. He stated that the Fire Department had considered
the site located at County Road B and Dale and had concluded that the site at County
Road B and Western was a far more desirable site.
