<br />Ro~~ville Planning Commission Minute~ <br /> <br />June 4, 1975 <br /> <br />The June 4, 1975 regular meeting of the Roseville Planning Commission was called to order <br />by Chairman Grauel at 7:30 PoM, <br /> <br />Members present: Rukavina, Mastel, Cushing, G, Johnson, Kellett and Grauel, <br /> <br />Members abs ent : V 0 Johnson <br /> <br />Staff present: Howard Dahlgren, Terry Kramer and Steve North <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Mr, G, Johnson moved and Mrs, Cushing seconded, that the minutes of the regular meeting <br />of May 7, 1975, be approved, Roll Call, Ayes: Rukavina, Mastel, Cushing, G, Johnson, <br />Kellett and Grauel, Nays; None, <br /> <br />Planning File 890 ~ Northwestern College request for special use permit and variance to <br />parking requirement at 3003 North Snelling Avenue <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />ML Vermayne Bertram of Hirsch Associates Architects, represented the applicant, He <br />indicated that the college presently has one existing dormitory on the property located <br />in Roseville, He stated that the college proposes to construct two additional dormitories <br />at the present time and a fourth dormitory to be constructed in the future, The proposal <br />includes 97 parking spaces adjacent to the proposed dormitories and 78 additional parking <br />spaces across the pond from the dormitories, Also, 59 parking spaces are proposed to be <br />located in the area of the athletic field, for a total of 234 parking spaces located on <br />college property in Roseville, The Arden Hills portion of the c.ampus presently has 280 <br />parking spaces which will be expanded in the future to over 400 spaces, Mr, Bertram <br />indicated that the proposed light fixtures would be directed towards the dormitory bUIld <br />ings and away from the residential neighborhood, <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mr, Rukavina inquired as to how many parking permits the college presently has for students <br />residing in the existing dormitory, <br /> <br />Mr, Berntsen, President of Northwestern College, stated that there are currently 8 permits, <br /> <br />Mr, Cleo Churchward, 3093 North Asbury, objected to the parking being so close to his <br />property, He stated that the residents find the lighting on the present building to be <br />objectionable, particularly during the winter months when the foilage is off the trees, <br /> <br />ML Grauel inquired if the lighting on the existing building could not be directed <br />differently, <br /> <br />Mr, Berntsen, indicated that he felt it could be, <br /> <br />Mr, Donald Zalk, 3034 Shorewood Lane, asked if the questions posed in a letter from <br />Mr, Vern Johnson, a member of the Planning Commission and a resident in the area of the <br />college, had been asked of the applicant, He indicated that Mr. Johnson was unable to <br />be present at the meeting, Mr, Grauel stated that the questions had not been asked of <br />the applicant, He stated that he would turn Mr, Johnson's letter over to the staff and <br />
