-4-

Mr. Ed Conenskey, Dohrn Transfer Sales Representative, read a statenent from
Dohrn requesting that the Ccmnission favorably consider their application.

Discussion

Mr. Fobert Reimer, Terminal Manager of Midwest M::>tor Express, located directly
north of Ibhrn Transfer, indicated that they also plan to expand in the future
and that they support Dohrn' s application.

Mr. Dan Buchholz , Executive Vice President, North Suburban Chanber of CoImerce,
indicated that carpanies must be able to expand and that the expansion of Dohrn
Transfer will also provide new jobs. Mr. Buchholz stated that his primary concern
was safety in providing sufficient roam for the trucks to enter and leave the
dock area. He asked that the Corrmission favorably consider this application and
approve the expansion.

Mr. Tansabell also indicated that Mr. PikCMSky, CMner of Hyman Freightways
located to the east, also supported the application.

Mr. Tansabell coorrented that Dohrn may be forced to relocate if the application
is not approved because of lack of space. He stated that Dohrn is not asking
for the vacation of M::>unt Ridge Road, and that M::>unt Ridge would provide the
needed access for the area in the future. He stated that Mr. Dahlgren was con-
sidering only the future in making this recarrtendation that Iona Lane not be
vacated. He said the Corrmission had a responsibility to consider all the factors
including safety, jobs, business climate and taxes.

Mr. Tansabell indicated that Dohrn has been a good rrember of the carmunity
since 1964 and requested the Corrmission to consider the problem of the corrpany.

Mr. V. Johnson asked if granting the variance, without vacating Iona Lane,
would solve the problem.

Mr. Tansabell responded that he could not state this would solve the problem
without the vacation.

After considerable review, of the distances required for entering and leaving
the dock area, with the representatives of the truck firm and Mr. Dahlgren, it
appeared that this could be accarpoished without vacating the right-of-way.

Mr. V. Johnson indicated that the facts did not seem to support the need for
the vacation of Iona Lane.

Mr. G. Johnson camented that there should be sare setback retained from the
north property line to provide green space when Iona Lane is inproved.

Reca:mendation

Mr. Rukavina ITOved and Mr. Silrons seconded, that the Commission recormend
approval of a variance permitting parking to within 10 feet of the north property
line of Dohrn Transfer located at 2750 Cleveland Avenue with the condition that
the variance will expire when the property is no longer used as a truck terminal.
Roll Call, Ayes: Silrons, G. Johnson, Dressler, Mastel, Cushing, Rukavina and
V. Johnson. Nays: None.
