The applicant stated they <br />would be gates that swung fran the middle in two sections. <br /> <br />Mrs. Dressler asked where the new cars were located. He indicated in front of the build- <br />ing to SCYCe degree, as well as on both sides. <br /> <br />Mr. Sim:>ns asked where the intrusions had been coming from, and Mr. Tischler indicated <br />in two cases where the perpetrators had been caught they had been entering from the front. <br /> <br />Mr. Vem Johnson asked hCM many cars or what percentage of the total dollar arrount was <br />attributable to stolen cars. <br /> <br />Mr. Tischler indicated that they have had 9 nfM and sarre used cars stolen and that repre- <br />sented approximately 50% of the total dollar arrount. <br /> <br />Mr. George Johnson asked why the building hadn't been built closer to other dealers as <br />suggested when the application for the building was originally nade. The applicant <br />indicated that others have similar prablenE even though they are located close together. <br /> <br />Mr. Dahlgren asked the applicant if he believed that having a fence in the front was good <br />and the applicant again indicated that it nay not be the best, but the business could not <br />continue to suffer the damages that it had been. <br /> <br />Mr. Dahlgren then re-explained the proposal concerning limiting of the fence and stressed <br />his support for keeping a fence from the front of the building. <br /> <br />Mr. Sirrons asked if there was any thought of expanding the lot. 'Ihe applicant indicated <br />possibly to the north, but nothing had been decided as yet. <br /> <br />Mr. Mastel indicated that even though other dealers do not have fences directly in front, <br />several on 35W have freava.y fences in front. Mr. Dahlgren then indicated concern over <br />the viability of the dealership and Mrs. Dressler asked if it would be possible to build a <br />smaller fence. '!he applicant indicated that a smaller fence would do very little to help <br />the problem. <br /> <br />Mr. George Johnson then indicated that it seemed that there was too much on the property <br />currently and the e~ansion to the north might eliminate the need for parking of vehicles <br />in the front and leave the front open. <br /> <br />Recomrendation <br /> <br />Mr. Rukavina IIDVed and Mr. Sincns seconded, that the Comnission recoItmIDd approval of <br />Midway Ford's request for variance to fence height at 2777 Snelling. Roll Call, Ayes: <br />Rukavina, V. Johnson. Nays: CUshing, SiIIDns, Dressler, G. Johnson. Abstention: Mastel. <br /> <br />Mrs. Cushing indicated that she believed that the chain link fence in the front of the <br />building would be aesthetically displeasing. <br /> <br />Mr. SiIrons indicated he had. seconded the ItDtion xrerely to open discussion and that he <br />believed the aesthetics of the situation were bad. <br /> <br />Mr. George Johnson indicated he didn't think it seemed like a reasonable solution and <br />that the fact it was necessary to fence in the entire property reflected badly on the <br />conmuni ty . <br />
