<br />-6- <br /> <br />Planning File 1229 - David Burroff request for variance to front and side yard setback <br />at 2295 Rice Street <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Mr. Dahlgren indicated the property in question is the old Grandma Lee's Restaurant site <br />which is now closed. '!he applicant purchased the site and building with purposes to re- <br />IIDdelling and converting to a full service restaurant. It is their intention to enclose <br />what is nCM a covered entrance on the north side of the building and also place a railroad <br />parlor car along the north side. '!his parlor car and the enclosure of the entrance would <br />cause the main structure of the restaurant to be wi thin 6 feet of the right-of-way on the <br />north side along Woodbridge. It is also the applicant's intention to purchase a railroad <br />locoxroti ve to be placed along the east side of the property. '!his would bring the structure <br />on the east side of the site to wi thin 18 feet of the right-of-way. '!he applicant is, <br />therefore, requesting a variance to the side and front yard setback. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Rukavina expressed concern over the type of locoxrotive, whether it was to be a large or <br />small one, and how much space it would actually take up in the north/south direction. <br /> <br />'!he applicant indicated that he was interested in obtaining a small antique type loco- <br />xrotive. <br /> <br />Mr. Vern Johnson asked if it would be possilile to place a condition on the type of loco- <br />xrotive. <br /> <br />Mr. Dahlgren indicated that it would be. Mr. George Johnson asked if there were sidewalks <br />on the site and Mr. Honchell noted that he believed there were sidewalks to the north and <br />east. <br /> <br />Mrs. Dressler inquired as to the signs. The applicant indicated that they would use exist- <br />ing sign ,structures changing only the nane on the sign. <br /> <br />Mr. Sirrons indicated that he wasn't sure that the railroad therre was in keeping with the <br />area 0 <br /> <br />Recormrendation <br /> <br />Mr. Rukavina xroved and Mrs. Cushing seconded, that the Camnission recarnm:md approval of <br />the David Burroff request for variance to front yard setback and that the request for <br />variance to side yard setback be denied. Roll Call, Ayes: Rukavina, Cushing, Mastel, <br />Sirrons, Dressler, G. Johnson, Vem Johnson. <br /> <br />Mr. Vem Johnson asked that the Conmission be polled as to consensus on the request <br />for the side yard setback and it was determined that the consensus of the Conmission was <br />that the side yard setback would be approved pending submission by the applicant of a <br />drawing or picture of the locoxrotive to be placed on the east side of the site. <br /> <br />Plarming File 1230 - Sheehy Construction Conpany request for rezoning from R-l to B-l <br />at 2655 Snelling Avenue Frontage Road <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Mr 0 Dahlgren indicated the property in question is a sliver of land that was inadvert- <br />ently left out of the previous rezoning proposal on the old Rose Drive-in site. 'Ibis <br />piece of land is just southwest of the new frontage road and would affect the two office <br />
