Roseville Planning Commission Minutes
May 7, 1986

Page 5

Maschka stated again that the College should look at utilizing
the traffic flow in this area as a one-way, and Ericksen agreed
to review that request.

Chuck Lethert, 3085 Asbury, asked whether landscaping was currently
in the budget. Ericksen replied yes it is, as the College plants
trees every year.

Ruth Johnson, 3076 Shorewood Lane, stated it was her under-
standing that at one time the College promised not to build anything
on the bay area of the lake. Ericksen replied that they are
trying to build the Health and Fitness Building in the most
environmentally sound method as possible. The architects again
proceeded to discuss the proposed landscaping in the area.

Councilman Vern Johnson asked how close the Health and Fitness
facility was to his house. Architect Johnson stated that the
building shouldn't look any different than a two story house, and
it is basically three football fields away from Mr. Johnson's
property. Ericksen stated that there would be no major changes
in terms of removing any shrubs.

Vern Johnson asked for clarification of the roadway closing.
Ericksen replied eighty percent of the time, the western roadway
area would be closed. Councilman Vern Johnson asked why not
close it entirely. Architect Johnson replied that the secondary
access is needed for major events and fire. Councilman Johnson
asked if the fields were going to be lit. Ericksen replied there
would be no lighted fields in the area.

Annette Phillips again asked for clarification on the height of
the building. Architect Johnson replied it would be fifty-five
feet at its highest point.

Wiski asked if there are any buildings currently within the 40
foot range on campus. Architect Johnson replied yes.

Mr. Fox, 3168 Shorewood Lane, asked why he was not notified.
Dahlgren explained the notification process of the City. Waldron
also checked the Abstract, and Mr. Fox was depicted on the
Abstract. Fox also asked whether the Health and Fitness Building
couldn't be drawn back further into the campus. Ericksen replied
all options had been reviewed and, at this point in time, it was
the most appropriate use of the site.

Louise Steinworth, 3077 Asbury, asked whether doors on the existing
dormitory have only a main entrance on the east. Ericksen replied
no, there are some entrances on the western part.

An unnamed resident asked how have the total number of students
been projected. Ericksen proceeded to discuss the College's
projections, and how those projections fit into their proposed
building time frames.
