ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION Friday August 19, 1988 August 19, Commission 5:00 P.M. 1988 special meeting of the Roseville Planning was called to order by Chairperson Pat Johnson at Members Present: Berry, DeBenedet, Moeller, Maschka, Johnson Members Absent: Stokes, Goedeke Staff Present: Waldron, Jopke Council Present: None Planninq File 1844 Presentation Gerry Grant from Butler Paper Company thanked the commission for holding this special meeting. Mr. Grant summarized the history of their company's operation in Roseville and pointed out that the reason the need to pursue this variance on a quick time frame is that the company has acquired another paper company whose lease expires the end of the year. Mr. Grant testified that the expansion and variances requested would not present a hardship to the city or the surrounding property owners. Dahlgren summarized the location and the surrounding uses and outlined the proposal. Dahlgren informed the commission that the general policy of the city has been to accommodate businesses' expansion where there is minimal impact on the neighbors. Dahlgren stated that parking is the critical issue, and that sufficient parking would be provided on the site. Dahlgren added that another question would be whether or not the proposal should be brought up to current standards pertaining to curbing, landscaping and sidewalk. Dahlgren suggested that the city consider a variance to the curbing requirement with the condition that the sidewalk be constructed along Long Lake Road, and that additional landscaping be provided on the south and west sides of the site. Maschka asked the applicant if the landscape and sidewalk condi tions would pose a problem to them. Grant responded that they are willing to cooperate with the city to provide sidewalk and some additional landscaping.
