ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION

Pagefl3

Wednesday, November 1, 1989

Johnson stated that the commitment would not be in a letter but
would be part of the public process that occurred in the past for
the planning in the area.

Roll Call:

Ayes:

DeBenedet, Goedeke, Maschka, Berry,
stokes, Wietecki, Johnson

Nays:

None

Planninq File 2036

u. s . West request for special use permit for publ ic util i ty
building at 2595 Cleveland Avenue North.

Presentation

Dahlgren summarized the location and the proposed building.

Keel stated Engineering's concerns about providing complete
sidewalk on Cleveland and that the City could consider a variance
to the sidewalk requirement along the service road.

Nisja stated the need for a keybox on the site.

Alema Goodsla stated that this was an ideal site and explained
the need for the facility in the area. Goodsla added that there
would be a Halon fire detector on the location which would be
monitored at their downtown office which would eliminate the need
for alarms on the site. Nisj a indicated that this would be
acceptable.

DeBenedet pointed out that there appears to be a portion of the
street cutting across the site. Keel stated that he did not
notice that. DeBenedet suggested that the Engineering Department
look at that issue and make a recommendation to the Council.

stokes questioned if the metal roof design was standard. Goodsla
stated that there are different roof designs to pick from
depending on the area in which it is located but, in any case, it
would be a high quality design.

Goedeke stated a concern that the building will appear as a
square block building with no character and no windows. Goedeke
suggested that there is a utility building at County Road Band
Rice street which is a good looking, well designed structure
which the applicant should consider. Goodsla indicated that the
insets could be provided and the exterior could be redesigned.
Johnson questioned if the City really wanted the structure to
look like a house because it is in fact a utility building.
