Jim Schwalbach, the owner of the hardware store <br />was present and stated that he has been trying to get more of the <br />mowers put inside the building but they do not have the space. <br />Schwalbach added that he has been displaying outside merchandise <br />for the past ten years. He is currently looking for additional <br />off-site storage space. <br /> <br />DeBenedet questioned if it is possible for them to store the <br />additional materials in the addition on the back section of the <br />building. Schwalbach stated that this area is already full. <br /> <br />DeBenedet questioned if they have thought of making financial <br />incentives available to the customers to pick up their mowers <br />sooner to reduce the storage problem. Schwalbach stated that <br />they currently charge a dollar a day for storage if the machine <br />is not picked up within seven days. <br /> <br />Roberts questioned how the amount of outside storage space <br />compares to the amount of inside sales area. Schwalbach stated <br />that there is 850 feet indoors and 85 feet outdoors. <br /> <br />Roberts questioned where the normal access points are into the <br />building. Schwalbach showed the location of the entrances on the <br />building. Schwalbach added that he has had comments from <br />neighbors stating that they have no problems with his outside <br />storage. <br /> <br />Johnson closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />Johnson stated that this proposal will not leave enough sidewalk <br />space for pedestrians. <br /> <br />Keel commented on the dimensions of the sidewalk and added that <br />there are ballards located in front of the sidewalk to stop cars <br />from encroaching on the sidewalk space. <br /> <br />DeBenedet stated that not too many people use the sidewalk. They <br />usually park their vehicles and walk in a direct line towards the <br />doors. <br /> <br />wietecki stated that he may not be reading the ordinance in the <br />same way as others. He stated that we must consider these seven <br />items but not necessarily require them. <br /> <br />DeBenedet stated that he does not see a problem with this special <br />use permit. <br />
