ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION
Wednesday September 5, 1990

Page 12

alternative exterior materials.

Roll Call:

Ayes:

Berry, Goedeke, Johnson, Roberts,
stokes, wietecki

Nayes:

None

Planning File 2155

city of Roseville request for variances at 1140 Woodhill Drive.

Presentation

Shardlow presented proposal. Shardlow stated that this proposal
was for the variances only. The new addition to the city public
works building is set back only 22 feet from the road, the
ordinance requires 30 feet. A proposed wall is eleven feet high,
the ordinance puts a 6 1/2 foot limit on fences.

steve Gatlin, Public Works Director, stated that there was
hardship because the existing building is needed and there is no
room for expansion east or west. Gatlin stated that with the new
building the city would better able to utilize it's site. Gatlin
pointed out that the wall has to be eleven feet in order to
properly screen the large machinery.

Berry questioned whether there would be plantings and
landscaping. Gatlin stated that there would be and pointed them
out on a drawing.

wietecki questioned why there was a 6 l/2 foot limitation on
fences. Shardlow stated that it was city policy to treat
anything higher than 6 1/2 feet as a structure.

Goedeke questioned why the proposed addition had to be so large.
Gatlin responded that large machinery would use the building,
anything smaller would render the building useless.

Roberts stated that the wall height facing civic Center Dr. was
seven feet. Gatlin stated that due to a berm, wall facing the
street showed only seven feet.

Goedeke questioned whether there would be brick all around the
building. Keel stated that there was a small portion of painted
block in the back of the building in order to blend in with
existing building.

wietecki questioned why the courtyard couldn't be
lowered in order to better screen the machinery.
that it would be very expensive and make it harder
to enter the buildings.

excavated and
Gatlin stated
for machinery
