Johanson indicated that they can't put up just the HOM letters on the sign because of trademark problems. Johanson added that their goal is to have as few letters as possible on the sign, however. DeBenedet suggested eliminating "furniture" from the sign and to reduce the size to 100 sq. feet. Johanson stated that they could look at a 100 sq. foot area but questioned whether this could continue at its present schedule and be considered at the March 25, 1991 Council meeting. Roberts questioned whether the height should also be limited. DeBenedet responded that he was not as concerned about the height. Goedeke stated that he was comfortable with the proposed 30 foot height. MOTION DeBenedet moved and Berry seconded to recommend approval of the sign variances to allow a sign not larger than 100 sq. feet and not higher than 30 feet. Presentation Shardlow summarized the site and history of the proposal. Shardlow outlined the new interim use permit process. Shardlow pointed out that the proposed use is not consistent with the long range plan and zoning in the area. Shardlow testified that the applicant would be making minimal improvements on the site, including painting and cutting the weeds. Shardlow stated that trash should be in the building or contained in a screened area and that the proposed steel storage area should be located to the south side of the building and screened from view. Shardlow pointed out that this would be a judgement call by the Commission and Council. Shardlow added that this is the first interim use permit and could set standards for future proposals.
