Planning Commission Minutes
November 8, 1995

Roll Call:

Ayes:

Wietecki, Thein, Harms, Cunningham, Rhody

Nayes:

None

6.

(b)

Plannini: File 2801: Scott Greseth/Lava Links request for a conditional use
permit at 1655 W. County Road B-2.

Chairperson Keith Wietecki opened the public hearing and requested City Planner
Michael Falk to provide a background report regarding the request by Lava Links. Mr.
Falk illustrated the site with a video. He explained that the request is for an amendment
to the existing conditional use permit. The amendment would allow for 14 additional
amusement devices on site. The total number of amusement devices within the business
would then total 50. No additional space will be added to the Lava Links business but the
business will replace table games with amusement games which are used in coordination
with their birthday party sales and party room.

Falk noted that there have been no police calls since January 1, 1994 regarding the
disturbances. He stated that a conditional use permit amendment is needed and license
approvals are also needed for the 14 additional devices. The staff recommended
approval.

Scott Greseth, Lava Links manager, stated that Lava Links has been in business for four
years and has made changes to adapt to the business environment. Additional devices are
primarily for birthday parties. They have had no security problems and the Lava Links
area has not been a hang-out area. In order to accommodate the 14 new amusement
devices, two pool tables will be lost.

Member Cunningham asked for the hours of operation. Greseth responded that the hours
of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 11 :00 p.m. on
weekends. Member Cunningham asked if there were problems with curfews. Greseth
replied there have not been.

Chairperson Wietecki asked for comment from the public. There was none.

Chairperson Wietecki closed the hearing.

MOTION: Member Cunningham moved, seconded by Member Harms to recommend
approval of Scott Greseth/Lava Links request for a conditional use permit at 1655 W.
County Road B-2 as per the draft resolution.

Roll Call:

Ayes:

Wietecki, Thein, Harms, Cunningham, Rhody

Nayes:

None

3
