this topic to the January 12, 1998 Planning Commission meeting.
Motion carried 5-0.
6e.Planning File 2974. City of Roseville, a request to amend Section
1012.10(A) of the City Code (Private and Commercial Antennas and
Towers) to include the placement of communication antennas on
existing public utility structures and towers as a permitted use.
Chairperson Keith Wietecki opened the hearing and asked Kim Lee to provide
an overview of the proposed ordinance to allow antennas to be placed on public
and utility transmission towers.
Staff recommended approval with the following language:
“Exception: Antennas attached to, but not above, the exterior walls of
buildings as an integral part of the architecture shall be a
permitted use in all B Business and I Industrial Districts.
Antennas attached to existing public utility structures and
existing public utility towers, including electrical transmission
towers and other structures deemed appropriate by the
Director of Community Development, shall be a permitted
use in all zoning districts.”
Member James Mulder stated this is a good solution for double use of existing
towers without having to add new towers in the community. A general
discussion ensued.
No additional comments were offered. The hearing was closed.
Motion:
Member Harms moved, seconded by Member Mulder, to recommend
approval of amendment to Section 1012.10(A) in accordance with the staff
recommendation dated December 10, 1997.
Motion carried 5-0.
8.
a)Chairperson Keith Wietecki noted that openings will be available on the
Planning Commission in Spring 1998.
b)The Home and Garden Fair was announced for February 28, 1998.
c)Member John Rhody suggested a housing appearance and preservation
standards study be undertaken by the Planning Commission. Members
Katy Harms, James Mulder, Douglas Wilkie and Keith Wietecki all agreed
with Member Rhody.
8
