<br />ROSEVILLE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION <br />Tuesday, September 10, 1985 <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Zielske at 7:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Members Present: Nackerud, Oberdorfer, Thomas, Zalk, and <br />Zielske. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Bailey, Mackey, Matts, McKenzie, and Wachter. <br /> <br />I. Business <br /> <br />A. Zielske circulated the August, 1985 newsletter of the <br />League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions. Zielske <br />entertained the motion, Nackerud moved, Oberdorfer <br />seconded, that the Roseville Human Rights Commission pay <br />its annual dues of $117 to the League. Motion passed. <br /> <br />B. Zielske circulated a letter from the Minnesota Department <br />of Human Rights pertaining to No Fault Grievance <br />Certification and Recertification. Commissioners can <br />attend training sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on <br />one of the following dates: <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />Saturday, <br />Tuesday, <br />Tuesday, <br />Wednesday, <br /> <br />October 5- <br />October 22 - <br />October 29 - <br />December 4 - <br /> <br />Space Center, <br />Bloomington <br />Bloomington <br />Minneapolis <br /> <br />St. Paul <br /> <br />C. Zielske appraised the Commission of a current grievance. <br />The grievant complained that the landlord of her <br />apartment complex wouldn't allow her to rent with pets, <br />claiming a -No Pet- policy. Grievant signed the lease <br />with this proviso. Once in residence, grievant <br />discovered that many tenants have pets. Grievant <br />believes she is a victim of race discrimination. Zielske <br />is processing the grievance. <br /> <br />D. Zielske presented letters from the Department of Human <br />Rights concerning a work/share agreement between the <br />Department and local commissions. (Letters attached to <br />these minutes.) zielske signed the agreement on behalf <br />of the Commission. <br /> <br />II. Other Business <br /> <br />A. Thomas suggested that commission members offer to speak <br />at local schools about No Fault Grievance. Nackerud <br />responded that she did offer to speak to students at <br />Kellogg Junior High School, but that none of the teachers <br />responded to her offer. Zielske suggested contacting <br />schools, service organizations, and churches. December 4, <br />International Human Rights Day, would be a good day to <br />make presentations. <br />
