HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION Tuesday, December 10, 1985 ( The meeting was called to order by Chairman Zielske at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Bailey, Nackerud, Oberdorfer, Thomas, Wachter, and Zielske. Members absent: Mackey, Matts, and McKenzie. Others present: Ron Moorse, Staff. I. Business A. Zielske indicated several local grievances have gone to the State. Two of the grievances involved age and employment. One involved race and employment, one involved disability and employment, and one involved sex and employment. B. Wachter and Oberdorfer discussed the no-fault grievance they are handling. The grievance occurred because of a change in a benefit program, which limits the choice of insurance programs for married employees. The basis of the complaint is discrimination on the basis of marital status. A meeting has been scheduled with the grievant and the respondent at the City Hall. ( C. Thomas suggested the Commission should ask the State Department of Human Rights if our Commission can find out the results of the local discrimination complaints that go to the State. D. Thomas discussed the January Commission meeting. The meeting is scheduled for the first Tuesday in January. Neighboring Commissions will be invited. The State Commissioner of Human Rights will be the featured speaker. E. Thomas provided information on the League of Human Rights Commissions. She indicated the League has a new Board of Directors. She also indicated she is very concerned that the League has rented an office, and is paying someone to do the Newsletter and the lobbying, both of which were done in the past by volunteers. Thomas suggested some Roseville Commissioner should attend the June League meeting, or go to a monthly Board meeting to question the new Board about this. It was suggested that Jackie Hayes be questioned about what is happening at the League.
