<br />,- <br />\ <br /> <br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MEETING <br />February 12, 1985 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Zielske at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Members present: Hays, Nackerud, Thomas, Zalk and Zielske. <br /> <br />Members absent: Bailey, Henry, Mackey, McKenzie and Wachter. <br /> <br />Others present: Moorse, staff. <br /> <br />I. Business <br /> <br />A. Zielske indicated the Bloomington Human Rights <br />Commission has produced a Human Rights video tape for <br />the local Cable TV channel. He suggested we send a <br />blank tape to the City to obtain a copy of the program. <br /> <br />B. Zie1ske discussed a small group fOllow-up to the Human <br />Rights Day regarding the issue of equal opportunity in <br />employment. <br /> <br />C. <br /> <br />( <br />" <br /> <br />zielske indicated he had not sent a letter to the <br />Police Chief regarding the Deputy Chief's presentation <br />to the Human Rights Commission and Police Human Rights <br />training. He requested the Commission provide him <br />with additional direction on what to include in the <br />letter. Hays suggested the Commission needs to put <br />together a summary of what it is looking for from the <br />Police Department. She indicated other police <br />departments should be surveyed regarding Human Rights <br />training. <br /> <br />Nackerud indicated the training should involve dealing <br />with people. She also suggested the Commission will <br />need to convince Post to include Human Rights training <br />in its continuing education requirements. <br /> <br />The Commission directed Moorse to identify the types of <br />courses available for Post credit. <br /> <br />D. Nackerud explained why the school district representative <br />was not present at the last Commission meeting. She <br />indicated the representative did not receive the informa- <br />tion regarding our invitation. She has rescheduled the <br />representative to attend the April 9 Commission meeting. <br /> <br />(-- <br /> <br />E. <br /> <br />zielske indicated the Commission has received two new <br />no-fault grievances. The first involves a grievant who <br />was frequently ill during a six month period of employ- <br />ment. He was terminated because of the attendance <br />problem. He now indicates he has been cured of the <br />illness. The former job is now open. He wants the <br />
