HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES DECEMBER 12, 1989 I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman King at 7:30 p.m. II. Roll Call Members present: David Bailey, Stanley Borden, Robert King, Jackie Lindberg, Mary Litsheim, and Betchen Oberdorfer. Excused Absence: Edythe Nackerud and Thelma McKenzie. Unexcused Absence: Zoe Jenkins and Vickie Wright. Others present: Ron Moorse, staff. III. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the November 14 meeting are to be amended to show Dave Bailey's absence as an excused absence. IV. Old 1. Business Grievances Lindberg described the grievance she has been working on. She has talked with both the grievant and respon- dent. The grievant wants some back pay for time out of work. The next step is to bring the grievant's request to the respondent, and bring the respondent's response back to the grievant. The grievance is based on dis- ability and employment. Litsheim suggested the Commission should have someone from an epilepsy organization talk about issues relating to epilepsy and employment. Litsheim described a grievance she has been working on. The grievance involves a male who joined a "women's" health club. The club does not have facilities for males, and he cannot make full use of all the facilities and programs. King explained the next steps in the grievance process. 2. Martin Luther Kino Dav King indicated Frank Wharton is confirmed. Also, a quartet from the Roseville High School may perform. A seventeen voice choir from Concordia will also perform. King asked for a volunteer to MC the tribute. Borden indicated he will act as MC if his schedule permits. Brenda Thomas was suggested as an alternate. Oberdorfer will ask Brenda if she is interested.
