<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1989 <br /> <br />I. <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was <br />7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />called to order by Chairman Oberdorfer at <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members present: <br /> <br />Borden, Bailey, King, Oberdorfer, Litsheim, <br />and Thomas. <br /> <br />Members absent: Jenkins, Nackerud, and Wright. <br /> <br />Excused absences: McKenzie. <br /> <br />III. Business <br />A. It was indicated that the minutes of the January 10, <br />1989 Commission meeting should be corrected to indicate <br />that Bob King's absence was an excused absence. <br /> <br />B. Oberdorfer reported on the new grievance intake proce- <br />dure she has initiated. Under the new procedure, the <br />state Department of Human Rights will contact city <br />staff with the initial grievance information. staff <br />will then relay this information to the Commission <br />Chairman. <br /> <br />C. Oberdorfer advised the Commission members of the dates <br />and locations of future no fault grievance training <br />sessions. <br /> <br />D. Martin Luther King Observance Review: <br />King reported on the Martin Luther King tribute held at <br />Rosedale. <br /> <br />Oberdorfer indicated she has sent a letter of <br />condolence to the family of Reginald Buckner. <br /> <br />It was suggested that McKenzie be asked to coordinate <br />with Frank Wharton concerning next year's program. <br /> <br />other musical groups to contact regarding next year's <br />program include the Jazz group at Ramsey High School <br />and the Choir Director of the Middle School. <br /> <br />E. The city's Affirmative Action Plan: <br />This item was not discussed. <br /> <br />F. Good Citizenship Award: <br />Borden indicated he has talked to Paul Bredow, of the <br />Rotary Club, concerning their sponsorship of an award. <br />He indicated the Rotary is very receptive to this idea. <br />It was suggested that the award could be presented at <br />Human Rights Day activities in December, or at an <br />Annual Volunteer Dinner. <br />
