<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1991 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Deutsch at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Members present: <br /> <br />David Norrgard, Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, <br />stan Borden, Jackie Lindberg, Bob Bancroft and <br />Mary Helen Deutsch. <br /> <br />Members absent: <br /> <br />Mary Litsheim, Karen Bondy, and Vicky Wright. <br /> <br />others present: <br /> <br />Thelma McKenzie, Minnesota League of Human <br />Rights Commission. <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Norrgard moved, Anderson seconded, that the minutes <br />September 10, 1991 meeting be approved. Roll Call, AYes: <br />gard, Borden, Anderson and Deutsch. Nays: None. <br /> <br />of the <br />Non> <br /> <br />IV. Business <br /> <br />A. Grievance Update <br />There were no grievances reported this month. <br /> <br />B. Committee Reports <br /> <br />1. Human Riqhts Excellence Award <br />The Commission reviewed a draft nomination form and <br />letter prepared by Stan Borden. <br /> <br />*Stan will make some minor revisions and forward the <br />letter and form for typing and distribution. <br /> <br />*The letter will be sent to businesses, churches, and any <br />other organization submitted by Commissioners. <br /> <br />*copies will be sent to the Commissioners, who are <br />encouraged to make nominations. <br /> <br />*The Mul ticul turaljCommunications Committee will prepa re <br />a press release on the award. <br /> <br />2. Multicultural Events and Communications <br /> <br />a) Articles--The committee will try to re-establish <br />contact with the local papers and encourage their <br />publication of Human Rights news and education <br />items. P.R. is needed for the Excellence Award, <br />Essay Contest, and workshops. <br /> <br />b) Educational--Mary Jean is meeting with Chamber mem- <br />bers to discuss co-sponsoring a workshop. <br />
